If last weekend’s NFL Draft taught any lessons to the USC Trojans, one was that staying in school — and putting in a senior season of pro-style training in college football — pays off.
USC had more players drafted than any other college. Of the 10 Trojans selected, nine were seniors, including several fifth-year players. Offensive guard Chilo Rachal, the sole Trojan junior to make himself eligible for the draft, was tak
en in the second round, 39th overall, by San Francisco.
Defensive tackle Sedrick Ellis, who was picked seventh overall by New Orleans, and linebacker Keith Rivers, who was taken ninth overall by Cincinnati, weren’t projected to be high first-rounders last season. But one more season playing and proving themselves in the Trojans’ nationally renowned defense vaulted them into the Top 10 — and its wealth.
