Dove Canyon’s Goydos contending in Players Championship

May 9th, 2008, 4:15 pm · Post a Comment · posted by Curtis Zupke, Staff writer

Who says short knockers can’t compete in majors?

Paul Goydos ranks 195th on the PGA Tour in driving distance (265.2 yards), but the Dove Canyon resident is tied for second after two rounds in The Players Championship, the so-called fifth major.

Goydos does rank ninth in driving accuracy, which helps explain why he has been able to navigate the 7,220-yard course. He is a stroke behind leader Kenny Perry.

Goydos, a Long Beach State graduate who wore the school’s cap for his round Friday, is looking for his first top-10 since he won the Sony Open last January.
