Bush lawsuit put on hold until May

The lawsuit of a man seeking nearly $300,000 from ex-USC tailback Reggie Bush has been put on hold after a San Diego judge last week set a date of May 2 to hear a motion to compel Bush to testify.

The NCAA is believed to be close to wrapping up its 2-year-old investigation into whether Bush took improper benefits while still at USC, but appears to be waiting for his deposition.

“They’ve done a lot of investigation on their own, but I’m sure this is the final piece of the puzzle,” said Brian Watkins, the attorney for plaintiff Lloyd Lake.

Neither Lake, Bush nor anyone else in the case has yet given a deposition. Lake walked out of a scheduled deposition last month because of the presence of an armed man in the conference room.

Bush’s attorney, David Cornwell, said the man was a private security guard whom he hired after threats from Watkins. Cornwell said Bush and his family were waiting to give their depositions until after Lake has given his.
